Ecosse Unique has always enjoyed providing clients with something just a little bit different in the way of holiday accommodation. We are therefore proud to present the very first Nissen hut in our portfolio! But no ordinary Nissen hut. The enthusiastic owners have effected an amazing transformation of this simple building into a delightful holiday cottage - a place, moreover, about which you can regale your friends for months to come.
It's called Tigh Cruinn, or the Curved House (don't expect we need to explain why) and it's on the edge of the little town of Tain, 34 miles north of Inverness and on the Dornoch Firth. It stands in its own garden which stretches to one third of an acre (furniture), with uninterrupted views across the fields to the south. There is parking at the door and secure storage in the garage for cycles etc.
Externally Tigh Cruinn resembles nothing so much as a rather demure smiley face. We believe that guests too will rapidly acquire smiley faces when they see their accommodation! Inside, there is a most comfortable living room with inset wood burner, a newly fitted kitchen, utility room, bathroom and two good bedrooms. There are oak floors in the sitting room and hall, and a new central heating system - everything you need in fact for a splendid holiday at any season of the year.
Tain (1.5m) is a delightful town with good shops, cafÈs, restaurants, distilleries and a links golf course. The Morangie forest (and if that sounds familiar, yes the Glenmorangie Distillery is very close by) is only two miles to the west, and offers excellent walking and cycling trails. There is great fishing in several nearby rivers, horse-riding, and of course the area is a naturalist's paradise, with a vast range of flora and fauna.
As far as touring is concerned Tigh Cruinn makes an excellent base. (Tain has a station, too, so you don't have to do it all by car.) To the north there is the charming cathedral 'city' of Dornoch, with its sands and superb golf course, and Dunrobin Castle. You can continue on to John o'Groats and even over to Orkney for the day. To the north west you can head via Loch Shin to Scourie and Durness, while to the south there are the delights of the Black Isle, and dolphin watching at Chanonry Point, not to mention Inverness itself.
Electricity, bed linen and towels are all
included. Sorry, no pets or smoking in the cottage.
