Tarbert Cottage,
Ardnamurchan,
West Coast Scotland.
Sleeps 4
Ardnamurchan south-west of Fort William is a land of true enchantment. Magnificent scenery warmed by the Gulf Stream and sheltered by the islands of The Inner Hebrides stretches westwards from Salen on Loch Sunart to the Ardnamurchan Lighthouse, the most westerly point on mainland Scotland.
It is a sanctuary for a rare fauna and wildlife which thrives in the remoteness of this spectacular peninsula, and tiny Salen (yacht-haven, pub, hotel) at the head of beautiful Glen Borrodale, 2 miles below Acharacle (shops) offers very comfortable accommodation in the self-contained top-half of Tarbert Cottage which stands detached in a pretty garden overlooking Loch Sunart and the Morvern Hills.
From here you can drive to Ardnamurchan Point and the famous island-fringed white sands of Sanna, visit the Natural History Centre at Glenmore or the Illegal Museum of Poaching and Distilling, walk silver sands smoothed by a clear emerald sea at Kilmory or the Singing Sands of Kentra; fish on Loch Shiel or Loch Sunart, etc., etc.
The car-ferry from Kilchoan (18m.) across to Tobermory on Mull (35 minutes) lets you visit Iona, and Staffa with its famous Fingal's Cave/colonies of puffins; and, via The Road to the Isles, you can take a ferry trip to Skye from Mallaig.
