The Farmhouse at Strathtyrum

The Farmhouse at Strathtyrum
St Andrews
Fife
Scotland

Sleeping 5

This spacious and well-appointed detached farmhouse stands amid trees on the Strathtyrum estate on the outskirts of St Andrews, and is, in fact closer to many of the holes on the legendary Old Course than the Royal and Ancient Clubhouse itself!

This is also a perfect spot for families, where children can play on the grassy open space in front of the house, and tenants can explore the private avenues round about. (Strathtyrum Home Farm is a working concern, however, and there are farm vehicles around.)

Inside, there is a splendid, large kitchen-dining room, a cosy lounge with open fire and upstairs, twin and single bedrooms on the first floor and a double bedroom on the second.

The Home Farm of the estate, which lies in the immediate vicinity of the cottage, comprises some 400 acres of arable farmland and groves of trees. About half a mile up the avenue from the cottage is the main house, a gracious Georgian yellow sandstone building, much in demand as a wedding venue, which houses an interesting art collection which can be viewed during the first week of every month.

The Old Course at St Andrews

St Andrews surely needs no introduction as 'the home of golf' and also the site of Scotland's oldest University. With its ruined castle and cathedral and quaint cobbled streets it is a popular tourist destination. The legendary West Sands (remember the opening credits of the film Chariots of Fire? They were filmed there) are on the same side of town as the Estate, as of course is the Old Course itself. And as one would expect from a place which regularly plays host to the OpenGolf Championships, for all its small size it offers a range of hotels and restaurants of which any city would be proud.

Inland, you can visit the Scottish Deer Centre near Cupar (6m), Mary Queen of Scots' lovely palace at Falkland, or explore the quaint fishing villages of the East Neuk. Craigtoun Park is also within a mile or two of the cottage, with lots of attractions for all of the family.

Oil central heating, electricity, bed linen and towels are all included!included in the rental, Sorry, no pets and smoking is not permitted within the cottage.
