Delightfully situated near the end of the Sleat Peninsula, (often called 'The Garden of Skye') in the quiet village of Ardvasar, Rosemount Cottage is a traditional, detached, whitewashed farmhouse, now lovingly restored by its owners with an eye to retaining its character while providing every modern comfort.

Rosemount stands in a prominent position above the village in its own garden. It has wonderful views across the South of Sleat to the rugged wilderness of the Knoydart peninsula on the mainland. Inside, the accommodation is well suited to larger parties, with no less than two separate sitting rooms and a further open plan newly fitted kitchen/dining room with wood burning stove. With two double bedrooms at the front (one en suite), two twin rooms and a further family bathroom, the house is both spacious and versatile.

Ardvasar is where you will arrive if you take the little Calmac ferry from Mallaig to Skye. If you choose to come over the Skye Bridge (which is now free!) however, there is a good new fast road down Sleat which will have you at the cottage in barely half an hour.

This is a lovely corner of the island, fertile and gentler than the rugged Cuillins to the north. Armadale Castle and gardens are just up the road, and , for eating out, you have the choice of the Ardavasar Hotel within a short walk, the 'Pasta Shed' on the pier, or the Eilean Iarmain Hotel or Lady Claire Macdonald's Kinloch Lodge, both of which are just a short drive away. If you take the little road which runs round the back of the peninsula by Achnacloich and Tokavaig, (keep an eye out for deer) you will find a lovely beach and grassy machair, ideal for shoreside picnics, with stunning views across to the Red Cuillin. Look out for seals bobbing in the water! For the more adventurous, from Armadale pier you can take the exhilarating 'Seafari' ride or even a boat across to the Old Forge, on Knoydart, the UK's most remote pub.

At this end of the island you are well placed for taking the stunning mountain road over to Kylerhea, where you can visit the otter hide, or, by going up to Broadford (all facilities), you can drive over to Elgol for boat trips into Loch Scavaig under the Cuillin's towering peaks. If you wish to take to the water without driving so far, Isle of Skye Yacht Charters operate just down the road from the cottage.

From Broadford, a fast road takes you up to Sligachan, where you can start climbing expeditions if you are so minded, or branch off to historic Dunvegan. By continuing up Glen Varragill, on the other hand, you will come first to the good 9-hole golf course at Sconser, and then to Portree, the 'capital' of Skye. From Sconser, you can also take the little ferry which plies back and forth to the peaceful island of Raasay, for more good walking.

Heating by oil-fired range and electricity are included. Bed linen is included and towels may be hired. Pets by arrangement. A refundable householder's deposit may be required.
