The Missionary's House
Glendale
Isle of Skye

Sleeping 5

The Missionary's House is situated on the Duirinish peninsula on the west coast of Skye, about 7 miles from Dunvegan and in the little crofting community of Fasach in Glendale. ('Foodies' will be delighted to learn that it is also just a short distance from the world famous Three Chimneys restaurant!)

It stands in over 6 acres of its own land high above the road, with wonderful views of the whole Glendale valley and Loch Pooltiel beyond, to the Outer Hebrides. In fact you have a ringside seat for those glorious Hebridean sunsets, which can be enjoyed either from the garden around the house (furniture) or from the cosy interior.

Inside, the house has been completely refurbished by its new owners and has been equipped and furnished to a very high standard. In addition to the sitting room, with its whitewashed stone wall, stripped wood floors and roaring woodburning stove, there is a separate dining room with an open fire and a further 'snug', also with woodburning stove.

Here, you are on the Duirinish Peninsula, which had the dubious distinction of having been almost completely emptied of its population during the Highland Clearances. Now, however, it is a wonderful place for walkers. While the Cuillins are a 40 minute drive, Macleod's Tables can be accessed right from the door of the cottage, and, to the southeast, the paths along the highest cliff walk in Britain lead to Neist Point. This route also provides excellent opportunities for whale and bird watching.

The Missionary's HouseThere are several small museums in the area, and the MacCrimmon Piping Heritage Centre at Borreraig.

With regard to eating out, if you can't rise to the Three Chimneys every night, there are several other excellent restaurants (open from Easter) within easy reach. In Glendale, there is a small licensed restaurant, plus a post office and a village store which stocks most food items.

The Coral beaches are about 9 miles away and you will probably also want to take in Dunvegan Castle, the biggest tourist attraction in the area. Portree, the 'capital' of Skye, is 25 miles away.

Heating is by electric storage heaters (first £15 included!included) and wood burning stove/open fire (first two baskets of fuel included!included). Bed linen and towels are included!included. Sorry, no pets or smoking within the house.
