Mabon Law,
near Hawick,
Roxburghshire.
Sleeps 5
Mabonlaw is a traditional detached cottage set in a stunning location amidst the Border Hills and only 5 miles from Hawick and the main Carlisle – Edinburgh A7 road.
Formerly a shepherd's home, the cottage has recently been renovated with great care in an attractive rustic style. It is well-equipped and has efficient central heating.
The cottage is a firm favourite with country-lovers. Set high up (1000ft.) in the Border Hills and at the end of a one mile track it is totally concealed from all but the skylarks and sparrow-hawks who circle above. The view is absolutely magnificent and covers about 60 miles towards the south west (not a house in sight) and the far hills at the English border. There is no danger of being overlooked!
This old stone cottage was a happy home for the Estate shepherd and his family. The sheep grazed contentedly on the lush green fields around the house and today children can play freely and in complete safety on these same fields.
There is a piano inside and the adjoining barn houses table tennis, darts and even a resident owl!
At your feet lies the lovely Border countryside with excellent walks, mountain biking, fishing, wildlife-watching, riding all available in the surrounding area. You also have easy access to Dumfries and Galloway, Edinburgh, The Lake District and Northumbria.
Heating is by oil central heating (£15
included in rental), wood-burning stove and open-fire. Bed-linen and towels are available for hire. Pets are welcome. No smoking in the house.
