Sleeping 4

Balgove Farm stands just outside the historic Fife town of St Andrews, in a quiet and sheltered position amid trees and rolling countryside on the 400 acres of the Strathtyrum Estate. Here, too, is Lower Balgove, an attractive traditional holiday cottage in a bright and open situation with splendid views over the fields.

Lower Balgove is on the ground floor (Edenview Cottage forms the upper floor but the division has been so well done that neither would know the other is there. It does have an advantage if you wish to book a larger group yet keep some degree of independence.) The cottage is snug and well furnished with an open fire in the sitting room and a twin and double bedroom. Parking is at the door.

Visitors are free to walk about the Estate but should remember that this is a working farm so they may well meet the occasional farm vehicle. The main house is a beautiful Georgian yellow sandstone building about half a mile away and very popular as a wedding venue. It also has an interesting art collection which can be viewed during the first week of every month.

The Old Course, St Andrews

St Andrews is well known as the 'home of golf' and the site of the oldest University in Scotland. Tourists, who come here in great numbers, love to explore its ruined castle and cathedral and its charming cobbled streets. The world-famous West Sands (seen in the opening credits of the film 'Chariots of Fire') are on the same side of town as the Estate as is the prestigious Old Course itself. It goes without saying that even a small town like St Andrews which regularly hosts the Open Golf Championship offers a choice of hotels and restaurants to rival any city.

Along the coast of the East Neuk of Fife there are colourful fishing villages to explore or you can head inland to the Scottish Deer Centre near Cupar (10m) and Mary Queen of Scots' legendary palace at Falkland. For family attractions try Craigton Park which is only a couple of miles from the cottage and should you wish to visit a different beach there are gently sloping dunes and woodland picnic spots at Tentsmuir beyond Leuchars (12m).

Gas central heating, electricity, bed linen and towels are all included!included in the rental. Wi-Fi is available, subject to provider. Sorry, no pets and smoking is not permitted within the cottage.
