Just a short walk from the shores of historic Loch Leven, near the village of Kinnesswood in Fife and about 4 miles from Kinross (all facilities) is Loch Leven Cottage. This charming, detached farm cottage stands in its own large grass garden with panoramic views across the valley to the Lomond Hills, beloved of walkers, parapunters and gliders!
The cottage has been carefully modernised and refurbished to provide bright and very comfortable accommodation for up to six people, with king, queen and twin bedrooms, a cosy living room with open fire, well-fitted kitchen, and the benefit of an additional sunroom with pool table. Part of the garage is available for storing bikes etc.
Once snugly settled in, guests will find no shortage of things to interest them in the surrounding area. In fact Loch Leven Cottage is ideally placed for access to many of Scotland's premier attractions. It is just a few miles from the Edinburgh-Perth motorway, with Edinburgh 28 miles away to the south and Perth 20 miles to the north. To the east is the Kingdom of Fife with its quaint fishing villages and, of course, famous St Andrews (28m). To the west, you can head for Callander, the Trossachs and Loch Lomond, while the Highlands beyond Perth make for another excellent day out.
Nearer to the cottage, Loch Leven itself is a major attraction for several reasons. A visit to Loch Leven Castle, on an island in the middle of the loch and from which Mary Queen of Scots made her dramatic escape, should not be missed. It is reached via by boat from Kinross, with plenty of time to stroll round the island before the return journey. The loch is famous for trout fishing, with boats once again available for hire. The loch is a SSSI and bird lovers will find that the RSPB reserve at Vane Farm is close by. One of its main attractions are the tens of thousands of Pink Foot and Grey Lag Geese who put on fantastic displays as they rise up from the loch in the winter mornings to return again in spectacular style as the light fades. The loch is home to huge numbers of ducks, swans, waders and a host of others including osprey.
The cottage is on a path linking the Loch Leven Heritage Trail and the Michael Bruce Way, which offer either low level walking or some gentle hills. Cyclists, too will enjoy the quiet roads and trails round about. As befits a property in Fife, there is a golf course within half a mile of the house, with several others within a five mile radius.
Boredom is simply not an option at Loch Leven Cottage!
Bed linen, towels and oil fired CH are
included. Private water supply. Well-behaved pets are welcome by arrangement. Sorry, no smoking in the cottage. Visitors with young children are advised that the cottage is very close to unfenced watercourses.
