Lochindaal House
Port Charlotte
Island of Islay
Sleeping 6
Lochindaal House was once the home of the lighthouse keeper for the Port Charlotte light on the island of Islay. Islay is situated off the south-west coast of Scotland beyond the island of Arran and the Mull of Kintyre. There is a daily car/passenger ferry from Kennacraig on the Mull of Kintyre and a twice weekly one from Oban.
As a result of recent, major renovation, inside and out, the house is now a very comfortable and welcoming home standing high above the shore in its own 4 acres of land with magnificent views over Loch Indaal to the Paps of Jura and the mainland of Scotland beyond. It is set back from the road which runs to the village of Bruichladdich, (home to one of the 7 whisky distilleries for which Islay is famous), and a ten minute walk from the charming conservation village of Port Charlotte (hotel/restaurant/PO store) and about 12 miles from the village of Bowmore which has more shops, a swimming pool and yet another distillery.
Islay is a tranquil place, fascinating for bird watchers, ideal for walking, cycling (bicycles are for hire in the village) and fishing. It has beautiful sandy beaches and a first-class golf course. For a day trip try visiting the neighbouring islands of Jura (5 minutes by ferry) and Colonsay (weekly ferry).
Heating is by electric storage heaters in every room. Bed-linen, towels and electricity are
