(South of Edinburgh
Scotland

Sleeping 3 (4)

In a lovely open situation on a farm just two miles from the pretty Borders town of Peebles (all facilities) and barely half an hour from the outskirts of Edinburgh, Lilac Cottage is a sweet little detached house standing in an extensive grass garden, with a stream flowing past the front wall to complete the rural idyll.

The newly refurbished interior is light, bright and well-appointed, with open plan living space and a double and single bedroom (with extra pull-out bed.) Oil-fired background central heating and a wood-burning stove ensure its cosiness.

The surrounding area has so much to offer in terms of things to see and do. Nearby Glentress (6m) with its forest trails is fast becoming the No. 1 mountain biking venue in the country. There is riding at Peebles Hydro, canoeing and, needless to say, fishing in the Tweed and other lochans and rivers round about. Peebles has a leisure centre with swimming pool, and at nearby Traquair (7m) walkers can join the Southern Upland Way. Golfers are spoiled for choice with local courses in most of the Border towns (or try the new 18 hole course at Cardrona.)

For less active days, there are plenty of stately homes and castles to visit - the nearest are probably Neidpath, standing sentinel above the Tweed at Peebles, and Traquair, with its Bear Gates and own brewery. The little towns of the Scottish Borders are all within a few miles of each other, but each has its own distinctive character and are all well worth a visit.

Further afield, you can be on the Edinburgh bypass in a matter of minutes and from there most of central and even Highland Scotland is within your reach. Head across the Forth Bridge to Fife and St Andrews, or make for Callander and the beautiful Trossachs. Perth is scarcely an hour by motorway beyond Edinburgh, and from there you can continue to Aviemore, Braemar, the Angus Glens, or where you will.

Peebles has many excellent eating places, one, Halcyon, recently mentioned in the national press as among the top establishments in Scotland. Or the Cringletie Hotel is visible across the fields from the cottage and is within walking distance.

Bed linen, towels, electricity and background oil-CH are all included!included in the rental. Sorry, no pets, and smoking is not permitted in the cottage.
