The Hirsel
near Dunkeld
Perthshire
Sleeps 4
Up in the hills between Dunkeld (7m) and Blairgowrie stands the Hirsel, a traditional stone cottage set within the grounds of a large private country estate about an hour's drive north of Edinburgh.
Access is via the trunk road A9, the A923 then 3 miles of private road up to the door. The detached cottage looks out over its own small enclosed garden at a wonderful landscape of heather-clad hills and Scots pines. Visitors seeking a different kind of holiday on a real Scottish Highland Estate close to a working farm will thoroughly enjoy this interesting and relaxing experience.
Your only neighbours will be the Laird and the Keeper's House. Apart from that your company will be birds, such as curlews, peewits, ospreys, larks and many others: animals, such as roe and fallow deer, stoats and (if you are lucky) pine martens, and trout in the two lochans where you can fish from a boat. Dunkeld and Blairgowrie have a good variety of shops and the area also boasts some fine restaurants. The proximity of the A9 provides you with easy access to Inverness, Loch Ness and the west – while via Blairgowrie you can head over to the Angus glens and Royal Deeside.
Heating is by oil-fired central heating (
included), open-fire and fan heaters. Bed-linen and towels are
included. Pets are welcome but sorry NO CATS. A refundable householder's deposit will be required. Please note that
smoking is not permitted within the cottage.
