Hillcrest
Badachro,
near Gairloch

Sleeps 6(8)

Many visitors to Scotland consider the north-west coast to be 'out of this world' and among the many beauty spots on this glorious coastline the scenic waterfront around Badachro Bay on the south side of Loch Gairloch could well be considered heavenly.

Badachro lies about 6 miles south of Gairloch (shops, hotel). It is a small village clustered around the bay and has a well-known inn on the lochside which serves very good meals. Hillcrest is a traditional stone cottage in a superb location looking down over the bay (and a short stroll from the inn) and standing within its own private garden (furniture, barbecue) with parking at the door. Here you have a tremendous viewpoint from which to while away the days watching the yachts coming and going in the harbour, or the light as it moves and dances on the faraway mountains across the bay. For the time being, the chalet in the garden can be used for secure storage of bikes and other equipment.

This region will be well known to climbers and walkers – you are not too far from the famous mountains of Stac Pollaidh and the Coigeach. Alternatively, there is a fabulous coastal walk from where the road ends at Red Point, just down the coast, round to Diabaig. Trout fishermen and sea anglers are well catered for and there is pony trekking and a golf course at Gairloch. Boat trips are available from Badachro to observe marine life in the local waters. You can try creel fishing or a ghillie will take you on a trip to visit Isle Maree, the sacred island of the Moon, on Loch Maree.

Now that you know about the attractions in the area, what of the house itself? Hillcrest has been seriously renovated and upgraded during the past year and oil central heating and open fires now combine to ensure a warm welcome all year round. The ground floor houses an up-to-date, well-equipped kitchen, dining room (with piano, hi-fi with i-pod docking station and wi-fi), sitting room and double bedroom with bath/shower room adjoining (very convenient for those of limited mobility). Upstairs, there are two more bedrooms, a toilet and separate shower room.

Hillcrest has a charming atmosphere – the refurbishment has provided all the comforts of modern living yet the house still has many of the characteristics of a traditional Highland home.

For tenants wishing to bring their own boat outhauler mooring is available with landing facilities near the jetty. Deep water mooring for yachts is available for hire.

Bed linen, electricity and the first £20 of oil central heating are included!included in the rental and towels may be hired. Pets are welcome by arrangement. Sorry, no smoking in the cottage. Refundable householder's deposit payable on arrival. Special discount rates apply for couples. Please enquire.
