If you are looking for a comfortable haven in peaceful countryside then you will be delighted by Heathcote Cottage situated near the border town of Jedburgh (5m, all facilities, swimming pool). A quiet road takes you a couple of miles away from the main A68 trunk road to the cottage which has been created from two former farm cottages and has panoramic views across the valley of the Ale Water. Inside, it is surprisingly roomy with four good-sized bedrooms, a cosy sitting room with open fire and a separate dining room which can seat 8.

Outside, there is a sheltered grassy garden at the rear (furniture, barbecue), and parking at the side.

This region of Scotland was fiercely contested in the past by England and Scotland and its ruined abbeys, stately homes and castles are well worth a visit. The beautiful beaches of the Northumbrian coast, as well as Lindisfarne and Holy Island, are all just over an hour's drive away, as is the capital city, Edinburgh (38m). Closer to hand you have the attractive Border towns of Melrose, Kelso, Selkirk, Galashiels and Hawick with their first class wool and cashmere outlets.

For walkers there is a choice between the Southern Upland Way and St Cuthbert's Way, both of which are nearby. Those who prefer to walk in pursuit of a wee white ball will find several excellent golf courses, the two nearest being Minto (18 holes) and St Boswells (9 holes). Attractions for families include Harestanes Woodland Centre (5m) and the Jedforest Deer Park and Bird of Prey Centre (10m).

Heating is by oil fired central heating (included) and open fire (first basket of logs included, more available for purchase). First £10 of electricity included. Bed linen and towels are included. Pets are welcome by arrangement.
