Connoisseurs of the west coast of Scotland will be well acquainted with the wonderful scenery and rugged beauty of Ardnamurchan, Morar and Moidart. Just where these three areas meet, about 4 miles west of Acharacle, 1.5 miles of private track (suitable for normal saloon cars with care) will bring you to the door of Gorteneorn, a substantial, traditional farmhouse which occupies a magnificent position overlooking quiet and sandy Kentra Bay.

View

This is a perfect paradise for a family holiday, far from traffic, where adults and children alike will revel in the peace and privacy of their surroundings. Messing about on the shoreline (why not bring your own boat or canoe?), exploring the surrounding hills and woodlands, organizing impromptu games on the lawns in front of the house - doesn't that sound quite idyllic?

The house itself is sure to find favour with its tenants, being a most comfortable and well appointed family home. The entrance hall still has its original flagstone floor. There is a cosy lounge with open fire, and the traditional farmhouse-style kitchen has an oil-fired Aga which keeps the place toasty warm. There is also a shower room and toilet. Upstairs there are four bedrooms, in one of which is the TV/DVD(!) and a bathroom.

Gorteneorn

Acharacle has shops and an hotel, and from there you can head south and east to the point of Ardnamurchan ( a ferry plies back and forth in summer from Kilchoan to Tobermory on Mull). Alternatively, you can explore northwards, to the silver sands of Arisaig (27m) and Morar (where there is also an excellent golf course at Traigh). If you really can't go for the whole week without some retail therapy, Fort William is 45 miles from Acharacle. You could also take the Jacobite steam train which runs between Fort William and Mallaig and which in the course of its journey crosses the 'Hogwarts viaduct' made famous in the Harry Potter films.

Oil-fired central heating and electricity are included!included, bedlinen may be hired and towels may be hired (overseas guests only). A refundable householder's deposit will be required. Up to two well behaved pets are welcome by arrangement. Smoking is not permitted within the cottage. Please note that the water supply to the house comes from a private source and the downstairs supply is UV filtered. However, it can become discoloured, particularly after rain, and you may prefer to bring bottled water for drinking.
