The Glenmoriston Lodge Estate
Nr Invermoriston

Sleeping 4 and 7

The Glenmoriston Lodge Estate is a privately owned estate of some 8,600 acres extending westwards from the shores of Loch Ness in the heart of Highland Scotland. Here, you are in the very middle of the Great Glen, the 65 mile rift valley which runs between Inverness (27m) in the north east to Fort William (37m) in the west. Excellent road connections make it easy to strike out in either direction; take the steam train along the Road to the Isles from Fort William to Mallaig ; a day trip to Skye via the Skye Bridge (50m) is a perfectly feasible option, or you can go south east into Monarch of the Glen country.

Accommodation (two cottages):

Levishie Cottage, Nr Invermoriston

Levishie Cottage (Sleeps 4)

Levishie Cottage occupies an enviable position just a mile from Invermoriston (hotel, shop) beside Loch Ness and an hour from the Skye Bridge, making it a base from which it is possible to enjoy both the best of the Highlands and Scotland's lovely west coast.

Added to that, it is a perfectly delightful, traditional, whitewashed Highland cottage, for which the word 'cosy' might have been coined. In a lovely open situation, with fine views across the valley to the wooded hills on the other side, inside it is attractively furnished and well equipped and maintained, The stove in the sitting room provides an instant snug feeling; there is a spacious kitchen-diner, and an equally spacious double bedroom. While it's an ideal retreat for two people, if they simply won't let you keep it to yourselves, there's a further twin bedroom off the sitting room.

Outside there is a tumbling stream which flows between the cottage and Levishie House further down the hill and a extensive grassed area (furniture), with parking right at the house. The hill side rises to the back of the cottage and there are fine walks through the Glenmoriston Estate which can be started right from the door. Fishing can also be arranged on the Estate. The nearest golf course is at Fort Augustus (7m) where the Caledonian Canal passes through some dramatic locks. There is riding at Drumnadrochit (14m), from where you can also take boat trips on the Loch and attempt to catch a glimpse of the elusive 'Nessie'. Or visit historic Urquhart castle on the lochside. The Great Glen cycle way passes close by, and is a superb way of seeing the surrounding countryside.

For major shopping and a bit of urban bustle, or even just watching the dolphins in the Firth, Inverness is only 28 miles away and to the west, visits to Skye, Gairloch and other destinations on the west coast are quite feasible for a day trip.

Heating is by wood burning stove and electric storage heaters (electricity and logs included!included). Bed linen is included!included and towels may be hired. Up to two well-behaved pets are welcome by arrangement.
