Glenesslin Cottage is set in a quiet location on a working farm among the hills about 12 miles west of Dumfries in south west Scotland. The house is detached and stands in its own enclosed garden with panoramic views over the surrounding countryside. It is a perfect haven for children who can play safely in the garden and also enjoy the ping pong table in the garage.
This traditional cottage is full of character and has been totally refurbished and furnished to a very high standard. It has oil central heating and an open fire in the sitting room creates a welcoming atmosphere.
There are fine walks to be enjoyed straight from your door and in the Scaur Glen. Here you can observe very old Bronze Age forts as well as more modern sculptures by Andy Goldsworthy. It is possible to arrange salmon fishing on the river Nith, and both Southerness (40mins.) and Dumfries (20mins.) have good golf courses.
Not far from the attractive village of Thornhill (which has some quaint shops) is one of the area’s main attractions – Drumlanrig Castle and Country Park. Another noteworthy place is Glenkiln Reservoir, to the south of the cottage. Here, against a natural background, you can admire a unique collection of sculptures by Henry Moore, Epstein and Rodin.
Being less than an hour’s drive from the A74 main road at Lockerbie the cottage is centrally placed for visiting both the Solway Coast (Sweetheart Abbey and Caerlaverock Castle) and the tree-clad hills inland which provide excellent opportunities for cycling and walking. The castle and NT gardens at Threave are only a 40 minute drive away.
Bed linen, towels, heating and £15 electricity are 
included. Up to two well behaved pets welcome by arrangement. Sorry, no smoking in the cottage.
