Edenview Cottage

Edenview Cottage
St Andrews Fife
Scotland

Sleeping 4 (6)

The cottages on the Strathtyrum Estate enjoy a peaceful and sheltered position surrounded by trees and open fields a little less than a mile from the famous seaside town of St Andrews, in the Kingdom of Fife, a place sure to appeal to golfers and families alike.

One of these cottages is Edenview, the upper level of a traditional stone-built farmhouse, now most attractively furnished and equipped and with fine views over the Eden estuary. (Lower Balgrove forms the lower level but the conversion has been so ingenious that neither one is aware of the other. It is, however, very convenient for a larger party wishing to be together yet have some independence).

Inside, there is ample accommodation for 4-6 people: the kitchen/diner/living area is bright and airy and there is a snug sitting room with an open fire and a double sofa bed. Of the two double bedrooms one has an en suite WC and there is also a bathroom. You can park right at the door and there is a small, grassy garden with furniture.

Home Farm (part of the Estate) is close by the cottage and covers 400 acres of arable farmland and woodland. Visitors are welcome to walk along the farm tracks always remembering that this is a working farm so they may meet the occasional tractor. The main Estate house is an elegant Georgian building of yellow sandstone, about half a mile from the cottage. It is a very popular wedding venue as well as housing a noteworthy art collection which is open to viewing during the first week of every month.

The Old Course at St Andrews

Visitors will need no introduction to St Andrews 'the home of golf' and the site of Scotland's oldest University. Tourists love to come here to see the ruined castle and cathedral and the old-fashioned cobbled streets. The Estate stands on the same side of town as the Old Course and the famous West Sands (the opening credits of the film 'Chariots of Fire' were shot here). As the Open Golf Championship is held here on a regular basis it is no surprise to learn that this small town has a choice of hotels and restaurants which would grace any city.

Places of interest inland include the Scottish Deer Centre near Cupar (6m) and Mary Queen of Scots' beautiful palace at Falkland while the coastline of the East Neuk is dotted with pretty little fishing villages. Craigton Park, with all its attractions for families, is only a couple of miles away.

Gas central heating, electricity, bed linen and towels are all included!included in the rental. Wi-Fi is available, subject to provider. Sorry, no pets and smoking is not permitted within the cottage.
