Easter Steading
Near Cupar
Fife
Scotland
Sleeping 4
This is the most exquisite of holiday homes, converted with great flair and imagination from an old steading which stands behind the owner's house in a peaceful location in the rolling hills of north Fife, exactly halfway between Perth and St Andrews (both 16m).
The quality of the accommodation is second-to-none. On the ground floor there is a spacious and very well-equipped kitchen-diner, a wonderful double-height sitting room with piano, wood burner and gallery above, and a twin bedroom (converts to super king) with en suite bathroom. Upstairs, besides the gallery, there is a double bedroom, again with excellent en suite facilities of bath and separate shower. From the upstairs windows there are superb views across the surrounding countryside.
The steading forms two sides of a secluded walled courtyard (furniture, BBQ) which guests will have for their own exclusive use for parking and enjoying alfresco meals and evening drinks.
The best of accommodation and the best of locations too, for Fife is famous not just for its golf but also for its delightful coastline of sleepy fishing villages, glorious beaches and its tranquil and beautiful countryside, ideal for walking, birdwatching and cycling. The historic town of Cupar (7m) provides all facilities and has lots of interesting shops and eating places. Nearby National Trust properties include Falkland Palace, the country residence of Stuart kings and queens, and the stunning house and gardens of Lorimer's Hill of Tarvit. Wildlife enthusiasts might spot seals or sea eagles at Tentsmuir Nature Reserve and the Eden Estuary. For walkers the Fife Core Path network and Fife Coastal Path are easily accessible. There is loch fishing at nearby Lindores and golf absolutely everywhere, as would befit the home of the game. As well as the legendary Old Course and six further courses at St Andrews, there are many excellent courses nearby, while further afield the famous Open course at Carnoustie and Ryder Cup 2014 venue Gleneagles are each 40-50 minutes by car.
Edinburgh is just an hour by road or rail, and the M90 Edinburgh-Perth motorway is within easy reach and will have you up in the Highlands in about an hour. Dundee and the Angus glens beyond are a short hop across the Tay, and Glasgow, the west coast, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs are also quite feasible for day trips.
Bed linen, towels, electricity, a starter pack of wood and the first £25 of oil-CH are
included. Well-behaved pets are welcome by arrangement. Smoking is not permitted within the cottage.
