Outlook from Dunfuniary Cottage

Dunfuinary Cottage and
The Boathouse,
Dunfuinary
By Connel
near Oban
West Coast Scotland

Sleeping 2 and 4

In one of the loveliest parts of Scotland's west coast, just 6 miles from Oban and one mile from Connel village, there are two beautiful detached cottages, quite hidden from each other, which sit at the water's edge with an amazing outlook across Loch Etive. The photograph above is the view from Dunfuniary Cottage.

Their situation is such that tenants may well find it difficult to tear themselves away from the wonderful panorama before them, but the surrounding area is full of interest and things to do, far too much to cram into one week!

From Oban, you can take day trips to Mull, Staffa, Iona and several of the other smaller islands. There is a lovely safe beach just 4 miles away at Ardmucknish Bay near Benderloch, where there is also karting. Just 5 miles further up the road is the Sea Life Centre at Barcaldine, and families may also enjoy a visit to the Rare Breeds Park on the back road between Connel and Oban. Climbers and serious walkers will find they can reach Glencoe in under an hour, though there is plenty of excellent walking much closer to hand. You can ride at Lettershuna in Appin, and, while there, take in the gastronomic delights of Aird's Hotel or the Pierhouse Restaurant.

Connel is within walking distance of the cottages, and has restaurants, a pub and a shop, while Oban has all facilities.

Accommodation (2 cottages):

Dunfuinary Cottage (sleeps 2)

View from the terrace

The cottage stands quite alone and is accessed by steps from the road. While the road is therefore close, it is quite invisible from the double glazed cottage, and a trick of the acoustics means that any traffic noise goes literally over your head. What you find in front of you is quite stunning: the cottage is surrounded by decking platforms on three sides, high above the water, so you can follow the sun round as you take in the glorious view. Besides the decking, there is to the side of the cottage a shady grotto garden with furniture and a small terrace, where a path leads down to your own private shore area.

Inside, it has been charmingly and innovatively designed on two levels (3 internal stairs), with an open plan sunken sitting room with wood-burning stove, a spacious and well-fitted kitchen with patio doors to the decking and a double bedroom and bathroom.

Heating by oil CH, electricity, bed linen and towels are included!included. Sorry, no smokers and pets are not accepted.

The Boathouse, Dunfuinary (sleeps 4)

The Boathouse

The Boathouse stands right on the shore, in a very secluded position surrounded by woodland, with a decked terrace and a small beach alongside.

Inside, there is a bright and comfortable living room with wood-burning stove and French doors to the terrace, and excellent and superbly appointed kitchen-diner (French doors to the water's edge) and a double bedroom and shower room, while upstairs there is a twin bedroom and bathroom, both with coombed ceilings.

The steps down to the cottage make it unsuitable for those of limited mobility and because of its proximity to the water it is unsuitable for children under 10. There is off road parking at the top of the steps.

Oil CH, electricity, bed linen and towels are included!included. Sorry, no pets or smoking within the property.
