Duncanhaugh Mill Cottage
Nr Town Yetholm
Kelso
Scotland
Sleeping 2
Just outside the pretty village of Yetholm in the Scottish Borders, at the end of the Pennine Way and crossed by St Cuthbert's Way (walkers take note!) Duncanhaugh Mill Cottage is part of a delightful little group of steading conversions, very secluded, peaceful and unoverlooked.
It stands to the rear of Duncanhaugh Mill, with which it can be booked together or separately, but the Mill itself cannot be seen from any of the windows. The cottage has its own little garden (furniture) with a seating area for sunny breakfasts or tranquil evening drinks.
Inside, the conversion has been made with great imagination and flair. The living room in particular, with its high windows and wood burning stove, is very bright and welcoming. There is a four poster bed in the bedroom, and the dining kitchen is well-appointed.
In addition to the wonderful opportunities for walking in all directions, there is riding just over the Border at Cornhill on Tweed. You are within easy reach of the pretty Border towns of Kelso (swimming pool, ice rink, racecourse, Floors Castle) and Jedburgh, (15m) with its ruined abbey, haunted jail and Mary Queen of Scots' house. In the other direction, historic Berwick on Tweed (20m), Lindisfarne (26m) and the fabulous beaches of the Northumberland Coast are just as accessible.
Fishing can be arranged locally and the nearest golf courses are at Kelso, Jedburgh and Coldstream.
Heating and electricity, bed linen and towels are
included in the rental. Well-behaved pets are welcome by arrangement. Sorry, no smoking within the cottage.
