Coveyheugh Lodge,
nr Reston
Berwickshire

Sleeping 2 (3)

A short drive from the A1 in the midst of the lush Berwickshire countryside and 10 miles from the border at Berwick on Tweed (all facilities, railway station) is the little village of Reston (pub, shop). Coveyheugh Lodge, a delightful picture-postcard cottage, is situated about half a mile outside the village, nestling unobtrusively behind a hedge in a peaceful tree-lined lane which peters out a few hundred yards further on.

The Lodge stands at the end of the drive leading to the owner's Coveyheugh House. (The railway runs, unseen, through the cutting in front of it). At the back of the cottage is a conservatory leading to a sheltered grassy garden. Parking is at the side.

Conservatory

The interior is as delightful and comfortable as you might expect from the outside. and the accommodation is on three levels to accommodate the hill behind. The kitchen/diner is on the entrance floor with a staircase dividing it from the cosy sitting room which has an open fire and a single sofa bed for an extra guest. At the top of the steepish stairs there is a pretty double bedroom and a roomy shower room. A further flight of stairs leads down from the kitchen to the conservatory and back garden.

The owners run a holistic therapy centre and treatments can be arranged. At the side of the cottage there is an excellently equipped gym which tenants have free and often sole use of. Personal training can be arranged on request.

Garden

The countryside around here is very good for cycling. You can easily cycle to the beach at Coldingham or to St Abb's Head where there are seabird colonies on the spectacular cliffs. St Abbs also has a diving school and is a well-known diving venue.

Berwick with its historic barracks and castle makes an interesting day trip. Further down the coast you will find more castles and the wonderful beaches of Northumberland as well as the Holy Island of Lindisfarne.

If you fancy a day in the city, take the train up to Edinburgh and leave the car at home.

There are many fine stately homes to visit inland – for example Paxton House, Manderston and the gardens at The Hirsel. There is excellent walking in the Lammermuirs to the west or in the Cheviots to the south. Fishing, golf and riding are all available locally. The pub in Reston offers good bar meals.

Heating is by electric heaters (£10 electricity included!included) and open fire. Bed linen and towels are included!included. Sorry, no pets, and smoking is not permitted in the cottage.
