Caldra Garden Cottage is a delightful and tranquil haven from the hurly-burly of modern life, set as it is, overlooking the river Blackadder in the middle of the fertile Berwickshire countryside in the south east corner of Scotland. Detached and alone it stands in its private garden (furniture) linked by way of a grassy path to the beautiful walled garden belonging to the owners. Visitors are free to walk here and to buy its fresh fruit and produce when available in season. The river flows about 200 yards down the hill from the cottage and you can enjoy long lazy picnics in the peaceful meadow beside the bridge.

The cottage itself has recently been totally refurbished to a very high standard. Gas central heating and double glazing ensure warmth and there is a wood burning stove in the large and light sitting room. The dining room is separate, the kitchen is well-equipped with a Raeburn and a second table and chairs for breakfasting.

Although it appears lost in the countryside Caldra Garden is only a 5 minute drive from the bustling little market town of Duns (hotel, pubs, restaurants, all facilities). The Berwickshire coast is about 30 minutes further away and here, at Coldingham, there is a beautiful beach. St Abbs has an RSPB reserve and some spectacular cliffs while the town of Berwick has an interesting history, having been much fought over by Scotland and England in centuries past. From Berwick it is not far to the delights of the Northumbrian coast: fine beaches, Lindisfarne, Alnwick and Bamburgh Castles. In the opposite direction, Edinburgh is about an hour to the north while to the west the Scottish Borders offer a wide choice of castles, stately homes, ruined abbeys and lovely countryside to explore. Golfers will be delighted by the large number of reasonably priced and quiet courses in the immediate area. You can fish for fun about 3/4 mile from the cottage, Duns has a swimming pool and tennis courts and there is riding at Coldstream (13m).

Heating is by gas central heating (£20 included in the rental) and wood burning stove (basket of logs included, more available for purchase). Electricity, Bed linen and towels are included. Well-behaved pets are welcome by arrangement. Sorry, no smokers.
