Arrowdale and Innis Bheatha Cottage
Badachro
near Gairloch
Two cottages, sleeping 8 (9) and 7
Arrowdale
The village of Gairloch on the shores of Loch Shieldaig is located in what must be one of the most beautiful areas in the west of Scotland. Here you will find Arrowdale Farmhouse, stone-built and whitewashed in the traditional style, standing in its own quiet and private garden (2 acres, furniture, barbecue) amidst sloping lawns, shrubs and flower-beds. The views across the loch are magnificent and guests may explore the 22 acres of surrounding mature woodland.
The inside of the house has plenty of room and is attractively furnished in 'Laura Ashley' style. The spacious L-shaped sitting room has an open fire and a large window looking out over the garden and loch. There is a separate dining room and a library well-stocked with an extensive choice of books, magazines, chess board, desk etc. The kitchen and utility room are equipped with modern appliances. Also on this floor is the master bedroom complete with dressing room and en suite bathroom. There are two further bedrooms on the first floor and yet another in the attic. As the entry to the attic has limited headroom it makes a perfect hideaway for older children. To complete the accommodation there are two more bathrooms, one on the ground floor and one on the first floor.
Gairloch village is somewhat spread out and has a hotel, shops and a seafood restaurant. Walkers will find it a good base for exploring the stunning Torridon area while its many, isolated and sandy beaches will attract those of a less strenuous persuasion. You can also enjoy sitting in the garden of the first-rate pub in Badachro (a popular yachting centre) watching the boats sail by. If you wish to indulge in some bird-watching or seal-spotting, try the wonderful coastal walks, where you may also catch sight of dolphins and even an occasional whale. Alternatively you can take a boat trip from Gairloch and enjoy an even closer look. This is a particularly enjoyable way of exploring this coastline. Yet another attraction of this area are the sub-tropical gardens at Inverewe.
The house has full central heating (first £50
included). Electricity and fuel for the open fire, bed linen and towels are all
included. Up to two well behaved pets are welcome by arrangement.

Innis Bheatha Cottage
(sleeps 7)
Picture a storybook cottage in a superb location in one of Scotland's most beautiful areas – nothing better for a relaxing and peaceful holiday. Innis Bheatha (pronounced Innish Vecha – the meadow of the birches), a traditional whitewashed Highland cottage, is ideally situated in its own private garden (furniture), standing within 3 acres of private fenced ground. There is further access to 22 acres of mature woodland. Set on the southern shore of Loch Shieldaig it is close to the scenic village of Badachro.
Inside, this comfortable and spacious house has been attractively furnished. A very high standard has been maintained in the 'cottage' décor of all the rooms. The natural stone wall in the airy sitting room has a cosy open fire. The additional small sitting room also has an open fire and with a separate dining room guests have the chance to spread out. The kitchen, with Aga, is typical of a large farmhouse. There is also a bathroom and separate shower room on this floor. Upstairs you have two double bedrooms, one with en suite bathroom, a twin bedroom and a single bedroom – thus meeting a wide range of requirements.
Badachro is only 3 miles south of the crofting community of Gairloch and is a popular yachting centre. There is a very good pub here, the Badachro Inn, where you can sit in the garden and watch the yachts go past. Follow the winding single-track road for five miles and you come to the spectacular silver sands of Redpoint. If you are feeling active you can make the (longish) walk from here round to Lower Diabaig.
The star feature of this area is the rocky coastline with its many inlets sheltering sandy beaches. Fishing is very good, hill walkers can test themselves on the mountains of Torridon and there is plenty for bird watchers to observe. Garden lovers will be delighted with a visit to the superb sub-tropical gardens at Poolewe.
Bed linen, towels, heating, electricity, logs and coal are all
included. Up to two well behaved pets are welcome and groceries can be supplied, by prior arrangement , for your arrival.
