Ardchyline Cottage,
Strachur,
Argyll
Sleeps 4
About 3 miles north of Strathur (hotel/shop), 17 miles from Inveraray on Loch Fyne stands Ardchyline Cottage. This old, stone-built cottage, set on a hillside with commanding views over the loch and surrounding hills, a road right up to the door, all modern comforts and an open fire – fulfills most people's idea of a dream holiday home. The cottage is centrally situated via the A815 off the A83 Loch Lomond to Lochgilphead/Oban road and within touring distance of The Mull of Kintyre, the Oban/Fort William areas, Mull, The Road to the Isles, Ardnamurchan peninsula and Loch Ness. In the immediate vicinity of the cottage there is trout fishing in the lochan and also deep-sea fishing in Loch Fyne. The area is excellent for walking and bird-watching. In addition there is the possibility, in season, of red/roe deer stalking on the owners' 4,000 acre estate.
The furnishings are comfortable and unpretentious. The kitchen-diner is modern, the sitting room with its open fire is snug, and there are two bedrooms.
Of the several pub/restaurants in the area the well-known Creggans Inn is probably the nearest. Sea-food lovers will doubtless be drawn to the equally famous Loch Fyne Oyster Bar either to dine there or to stock up with some of their delicious products for enjoyment in the cottage. The Loch Fyne Oyster Bar lies on the road to Inveraray where there is a castle, golf-course and many museums. 15 miles in the opposite direction Dunoon stands on the Clyde coast which is well worth exploring.
Garden-lovers will appreciate the various local gardens open to the public: Ardkinglas Woodland Gardens at nearby Cairndow, Crarae, 10 miles south of Inveraray or the Benmore Botanical Gardens 10 miles down the road towards Dunoon.
Heating is by electric central heating and open fire. Bed linen is
included and towels may be hired. Pets are welcome but must be kept on a lead within the Estate. No smoking within the house please. A refundable householder's deposit will be required.
