Achnacloich
near Ardvasar
Isle of Skye

Sleeping 4+1

The village of Ardvasar (hotel, pub, tea-room) lies on the Sleat peninsula on the southern tip of the lovely island of Skye, which is also known as the Garden of Skye.

Achnacloich stands 7 miles north of Ardvasar, on a hillside, alone above a beautiful beach and dramatic shoreline looking out across to the islands of Soay, Canna and Rhum. To get there from the mainland, take the car-ferry from Mallaig to Armadale (8 miles), or the Skye bridge (about 25 miles) then follow the single-track road from the Sound of Sleat, enjoying the magnificent views and looking out for deer beside and even on the road.

Achnacloich, an unpretentious modern bungalow, is modestly but charmingly furnished. The cottage stands in an extensive grass garden with views over the Cuillins and enjoys an atmosphere of great peace and beauty. Visitors have a choice of short local walks or a day climbing in the hills.

If more mechanized travel is your choice, bicycles are for hire from the local garage and boat trips are available in season from the pier at Armadale. Music lovers will appreciate the many traditional music workshops and regular concerts on offer at the neighbouring Gaelic College. There are beautiful gardens, a museum, restaurant and gift-shop at the Clan Donald Centre at Armadale Castle. Sleat also boasts five other hotel/restaurants including the renowned Kinloch House (where Lady Clare MacDonald presides) for that special occasion.

Heating is by electricity. Bed-linen is included!included and towels are available for hire. One well behaved pet is welcome.
